Handcrafted Paper Poppies in Bloom

When Simon Playle got in touch about creating a bespoke window display in honour of the upcoming Chelsea Flower Show, we knew we needed to go BIG. Naturally, that meant giant, oversized wallpaper poppies, and over 700 individual handcrafted flowers, which kept Naomi occupied for weeks, and even prompted the opening of Thursday’s craft club.

The starting point for this craft venture came from our recently released design, Ostrich Feather, a softly luxurious Art Nouveau pattern that came to us from Yorkshire’s Scampston Hall. It’s an innovative piece of design for the time, combining a gentle trail of Victorian fashion craze ostrich feathers, blooming heads of poppies, and a delicate, all-over, small-scale floral pattern as the background. As our most decadent floral pattern, what better inspiration was there?
